RiftEye Privacy Policy
Effective 16 October 2026
RiftEye is a browser extension that names the Riftbound cards shown on Twitch and YouTube streams and shows a tooltip with the card when you point at it. This page explains what it reads, what it keeps and what it sends.
In short
- Card recognition runs entirely inside your browser. The video you watch is never uploaded anywhere.
- RiftEye has no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. It collects no personal data.
- It downloads only card pictures from Riot Games' image server and, when a new set comes out, updated card data from GitHub.
- Your settings stay on your computer. Removing the extension deletes them.
What RiftEye reads
While RiftEye is switched on, the tab is visible and you have marked the table area of a stream, it takes still pictures of that area of the video, about once a second. It also reads a small region when you ask it to name a particular card. These pictures go to the recognition engine, which is part of the extension and runs on your computer. They are processed in memory and then discarded. They are never saved and never sent off your computer.
RiftEye runs only on twitch.tv and youtube.com. It does not read the chat, your Twitch or
YouTube account, your history or any other site.
What RiftEye sends over the internet
Card pictures for the tooltips are downloaded from Riot Games' image server, cmsassets.rgpub.io,
and, for the newest cards that server does not have yet, from RiftEye's own site
(rifteye.com, hosted on GitHub Pages). As with any picture a website loads, the server receives your IP address and
ordinary browser information with each request. The request names the card picture only. It does not say which
stream you are watching. Riot's own privacy notice and
GitHub's privacy statement (below) cover those servers. RiftEye keeps the pictures in memory and does not save them.
A few times a day RiftEye checks GitHub (github.com, which serves the files from
release-assets.githubusercontent.com) for updated card data, and downloads it when a new set comes out.
GitHub receives your IP address and ordinary browser information, as with any download. The request is the same
for everyone and says nothing about you or what you watch.
GitHub's privacy statement
covers that server.
Nothing else is sent. There are no analytics, crash reports or usage statistics.
Development builds only (not the version in the Chrome Web Store): if you change “Card engine” to “Local server”, the pictures described above go to a program
on your own computer (localhost) instead of the built-in engine. They still never leave your computer.
What RiftEye keeps on your computer
| What | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your settings (on/off, tooltip options, which engine to use) | Browser extension storage, on this computer | Until you change them or remove the extension |
| The table area you marked, for each Twitch channel or YouTube video, labelled with the channel name or video ID | Browser extension storage, on this computer | Until you remove the extension |
| Updated card data downloaded from GitHub | Browser extension cache, on this computer | Until a newer set replaces it or you remove the extension |
| Decklists you paste and the cards named so far | Memory only | Until the browser closes |
None of this is synchronised to your Google account or sent to us. To erase all of it, remove the extension.
What we do not do
- We do not collect, sell, rent or share personal data. We have none to share.
- We do not show ads or use data for advertising, profiling or credit decisions.
- We do not load or run code from the internet. All of RiftEye's code ships inside the extension; the card data it downloads is data only, checked against published checksums.
RiftEye's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
